The inscription reads: &#8220;OROS CHORIOU IEROU APOLLONOS&#8221; (border of the sacred district of Apollo). The whole hill with its marble quarry was thus dedicated to the god of light and the arts.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/azalas.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/photos\/naxos\/sights\/quarry_apollonas_view-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"the location of the ancient inscription near Apollonas Naxos\"><br \/>\n<small>View towards Ap\u00f3llonas; the hill with the marble quarry can be seen on the left. The marble layers are situated on top of these slate layers.
