Depending upon your interests, you can enjoy a wonderful vacation on Naxos all year round.

From March to May the island is covered with lush green and beautiful wild flowers. Spring is the best season for botanists, orchid lovers, bird watchers and hikers. If you know the Cyclades only in the dry summer season, you will especially enjoy a visit in spring. However the weather may still be rather cool and it can rain sometimes.

In May and June the weather gets dry and warmer and it may even get quite hot already (with temperatures above 30 ° C = 86° Fahrenheit). Sometimes there are beautiful calm periods. Swimming is possible starting from May (if you don’t mind cool water).

In July and August it is hot in Greece. On Naxos, due to its situation in the middle of the Aegean sea and the strong north winds, the heat is usually well bearable with temperatures of a bit above 30° Celsius (90° Fahrenheit). Heatwaves with more than 35° C (95° Fahrenheit) can occur between end of June and mid of August. Summer is of course the best time if you mainly enjoy swimming and being at the beach. On cooler days and in the morning or evening hours small hikes are also possible.

In September and October, the weather is especially pleasant with temperatures around 20 – 25° C (68 – 77° Fahrenheit). This time of the year is ideal for hiking and also for swimming: till October the sea is still warm enough.

From November till April, the island shows a very different face: everything is green and full of life. Changing weather conditions, impressive clouds and the often breathtakingly clear atmosphere add to the colourful beauty of the island. Even in winter the weather is often fine with temperatures up to 20° Celsius or more (68° Fahrenheit). If it is cold, the cottages can be heated with the fireplaces.

In winter, when the tourist season is over, life on the island returns to its own slow and quiet pace, and the island belongs once more to the locals. Maybe you will be able to witness a traditional holiday such as Epiphany, the blessing of the water on the 6th of January, or carnival.
