A church and a tree in the Tragaia

Naxos has much to offer, incluring many trees and many churches, and some of them are truly remarkable.

There are many kermes oaks in the Tragaía, but this one is unique.

Only when you look a little closer do you realise that this oak is not growing on the ground…

…but on a church!

Here you can see the small, collapsed building of the church.

One can mainly recognize that it is a church by the round apse.

The oak grows on the arch, which is still standing.

Here you can see from the other side that the oak tree is actually rooted on top of the building.

I have not yet been able to find out which saint this church was once dedicated to – a nameless little church that has been forgotten. But without doubt a holy place!
